Bizarre but true
There are some really bizarre people that I live with here! Well, at least some people who have had really bizarre things happen in their lives!
Recently, we held a group activity where everyone submitted one bizarre fact about their life that not many others would know (some of us had plenty to choose from!) and a list was produced of all the bizarre things about everyone. We then guessed names of each person against the things that we thought applied to them. The bizarre facts ranged from the bizarre to the extremely bizarre and almost unbelievable!
Some examples:
- Loraine had a needle in her body that she discovered in a routine xray and doesn't know how it got there!
- Tessa once threatened to blow up a plane because she didn't get the chicken meal she wanted
- Richard's relative once had tea with Adolf Hitler and thought he was "a very nice young gentleman"
- Matt invented a car braking system when he was 13 years old that got displayed in Sydney's Powerhouse Museum
- Leonard can bend his pinky in the shape of a 7
- Helen once fell asleep at work in a previous job, woke up after everything was locked and tried to get out by climbing down the drainpipes - but was unfortunately arrested by site security for breaking in!
This Bizarre But True quiz formed the basis for a lot of conversation over the week or so after the list was published. "Did you know who THAT one was? I never would have guessed it was HER!" "What was your Bizarre fact?" "What do you think mine was?" It was really cool to delve into people's lives and realise that we are all unique creations, with very interesting histories, and all with a fairly healthy dose of bizarreness.
And my bizarre fact? I was the first girl to be born into my father's family in 100 years, and made it into the newspaper at about 8 days old, complete with family photo :)
After everyone had submitted their answers, the quizzes were marked and the winner was announced. I was the one who knew (or guessed!) the most bizarre facts correctly!! I guess this is partly because I have a bit of a memory for details and have been around here a while so get to hear a lot of people's stories. And the prize? A wonderfully useless invention: an electric contraption that cools cans (or heats them!) when you place the can inside. It's sitting in the office but doesn't get much of a work out!
