CSR in Australia

If you're reading this, and Australian and don't know what CSR stands for...it's kind of my point in posting this blog. Not your fault if you don't know, just a reflection of the backward nature of the Australian corporate scene when it comes to fulfilling CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility). Europe and the States are waaay ahead of Australia when it comes to CSR.

Just read an article, though, which gives me hope for a new direction for Australian businesses. According to the article,

The Rudd Labor Government brings a stronger intellectual grasp of corporate responsibility issues than its predecessor and it has plenty of talent to make its vision a reality if it chooses. In addition to Senator Penny Wong, there is the Member for Chisholm, Anna Burke, the Member for Prospect, Chris Bowen, Labor's Environment Spokesman, Peter Garrett and former Trade Union leaders and newly elected Members such as the Member for Maribyrnong, Bill Shorten, and the Member for Charlton, Greg Combet who will all readily grasp Labor's proposition that "corporate responsibility is fundamentally an issue of sustainability".

It makes lots of other good and encouraging statements about future prospects for the engagement of Australia's corporate response and responsibility to social and environmental needs.
