Keeping warm in winter showers
It's got cold in Hong Kong - though will yet get colder - and morning showers have become c-o-l-d, especially with a shower that has a permanently stuck open window!
Liz and I have been brainstorming ideas for how to keep warm when showering, and have also looked online for some inspiration. Here's our Top 20 pick of Hilda's Handy Hints.
20. Get some WD-40 and move the hinges on the window so it closes.
19. Shower at your neighbour's place where the windows in the shower close.
18. Cool the water a little before you get out so the temperature difference isn't so great.
17. Put a towel over the gap under the door to keep cold air out.
16. Put pictures of Arctic landscapes in your shower to help keep things in perspective.
15. Put pictures of hot climates in the bathroom to make you feel warmer.
14. Do aerobic exercises in the shower.
13. Find a way to shower outside in the sun
12. Have a cold shower so the outside temperature is actually warmer!
11. Move to a warmer climate
10. Have a heater installed outside your bathroom window, so it blows in hot air not cold air
9. Throw your towel in the dryer before your shower. (Only problem is that our dryers are located on the other side of our site)!
8. Run the hot tap in the sink so it generates lots of steam
7. Have a hot cup of tea waiting for you when you get out (conscript your flatmate or spouse or prepare it yourself and shower quickly)
6. Install a heater in the bathroom.
5. Shower with clothes on. Then you don't have to worry about getting undressed.
4. Use a towel to wrap around your damp hair while you dry off the rest of you to trap the body heat. Alternatively, pop a beanie straight on.
3. Try plugging the drain while you shower. This keeps your feet warm, at least. Flip the drain open when you turn the water off, and you will have plenty of time to dry off with warm feet.
2. Try putting an ice cube in your mouth. This will help lessen the shock of the colder air.

Very funny! I'm super impressed that you came up with 20!
It is the cold season here too...not as cold as in HK. But is is still fresh at 18 degrees when there is no hot water. Some of my Khmer friends are boiling water on the stove and taking a bucket bath instead of the usual shower. I've cut down from 3 showers per day to 2. Radical!

Hee, hee. My bathroom's freezing too so these are actually quite useful. Though I don't actually have shower so work on the 'submerge myself under the hot water' principle, which works until you have to get out.
Given Liz's recent nuptials (same Liz??) surely one you missed out though is 'shower with your spouse'.
